Novice and Open Walked-Up Test at Glewstone on 31st August 2025

Our Hosts: Mr & Mrs Jackson

Our Judges: Mr Dave Field, Miss Clare Baker, Mr Morton Redpath and Mr Josh Griffiths

The Walked-Up test finally took place on the 31st Aug. This event was rescheduled due to the hot weather. I would like to say a huge thank you to the committee and all the helpers for their efforts in organising and re-organising this event.

On the day, the weather provided perfect temperature for the dogs to work in. There was a strong wind which was the undoing of a few of the dogs. Although there was a strong wind the scenting conditions were tough. Dogs were only winding the dummies from a few feet away. The dogs that were unable to hunt and hold an area returned to their handlers with an empty mouth.

The ground was a fantastic representation of what could be expected in a walked up trial - dead flowers and a mixture of kale and wild bird mix that stood between 2 and 3ft tall.

We had an excellent team of guns and dummy throwers who were cleverly orchestrated by Miss Glare Gould and Mr Phil Bruton. They provided good testing retrieves and scenarios for the handlers and judges to navigate.

At this event we also marked and celebrated the Border Counties and Cotswold areas 50th Anniversary. At lunchtime Iris Wright did a fantastic speech about the area’s history. What also made this extra special was the fact the Jacksons have been hosting a test on their ground for as long as the area has been running. They provided a book of photographs which depicted the early tests and training. To commemorate our 50th year the handlers received a goodie bag. Huge thanks to @skinnersfieldandtrial @leucillin_skincare @acme_whistles @stroudfarmservices
