Southern UK Inter-Club Team Match 2018
This year was hosted by URC Southern at Northall Farm, East Sussex, by kind permission of Dan and Jan Kerwood.
It was a blisteringly hot day, and the dogs welcomed the water placed at every exercise.
Our Team consisted of
OPEN- Mike Lawrence, Brockaghs Fianait
NOVICE- Andrew Cooper, Copperwheat Harvey
NOVICE DOG/NOVICE HANDLER - Rob Cresswell, Operative Officer of Hadfelda
6 tests were set up for all sixteen 3 person teams, with one judge on each exercise. The judges were Mrs Diana Harrison, Mrs Gilly Nickols, Mr Colin Pelham, Mrs Helena Sully, Mr Roger Wade and Mr Graham Stanley. A big thank you to you and all and the many helpers involved in organising and running the day, which ran like clock work.
Test 1 was a walk-up exercise, with all 3 dogs and handlers in line at the same time. The distance of the retrieves varied for each category (Open, Novice & ND/NH).
Test 2 was a mixture of blinds and marks in a plantation of trees, and again each dog and handler were given their own retrieve.
Test 3 was blinds for all dogs and this time we could choose who went for which retrieve.
Test 4 was a very welcoming water exercise for all dogs, with the open having the furthest retrieve and the Novice and ND/NH a swim across a narrow lake and retrieve from land.
Test 5 was quite varied, and again we could nominate who was to go for which retrieve. This time a blind down a track in woodland, a blind down hill in to ferns and a mark over a fence.
Test 6 Three marks at different distances for each level of dog, and sent down hill just to make it a little more tricky.
By 2pm we were back at the club house for BBQ and refreshments, shortly followed by the all important presentation.
